A delicious and creamy Southern baked mac and cheese recipe that incorporates turkey bacon for an extra layer of flavor.

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper; cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, continue stirring until the mixture thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and add in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni and crumbled turkey bacon, mix well.
  7. Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and sprinkle extra cheese on top.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add some cayenne pepper.
  • Make sure to mix thoroughly to avoid clumps of cheese.
