A deliciously creamy Southern-style baked mac and cheese with a twist of turkey bacon for a smoky flavor.

  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled turkey bacon
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente.
  3. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens.
  5. Stir in the cheeses until melted and smooth.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni and turkey bacon, then season with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  7. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add some cayenne pepper to the cheese sauce.
